Smart Automation Designs is a South Australian owned and operated company, with owner, Steve Richardson, boasting more than 25 years of experience in the electrical industry. We work with architects, builders and developers to successfully integrate automation systems into commercial and residential buildings for occupants to enjoy. Our clients choose us simply because they are in need of an expert who they can trust to provide them with the most honest advice, and a reliable team of industry professionals.

Founder’s Story

Steve realised his dream of becoming an electrician as a young teenager after being electrocuted by a roadside sign with exposed terminals. At just 16, Steve began his apprenticeship and he has never looked back. He excelled to complete his course a year earlier than anticipated, and immediately went on to work in commercial and industrial electrics where he remained for 18 years. In 2011, Steve began his own electrical business with a focus on residential and commercial electrical works, and after he encountered a client with a great interest in automation he decided to make the move to focus on this new standard of technology. Steve’s knack for problem solving has been taken to new heights through utilising the most innovative modern technologies. He is able to integrate all components of a building to be fully automated, which Steve says should be ‘the standard for all new buildings with prestige.’

Steve’s design process is a unique one, with a transparent conversation between the client and himself used to determine whether or not automation integration is achievable. Steve is always 100% honest when it comes to project complexity and time constraints, so you will never have to make a decision wondering if all bases have been covered. He is also dedicated to using only the highest quality products that are guaranteed to save his clients time and money, such as MyHome Automation by Legrand.

“When we first met to discuss the overwhelming array of electrical choices that were available to us on our rather extensive renovation, Steve was fantastic with the amount of knowledge he had and his “can do” attitude.
